San Casciano in Val di Pesa
San Casciano in Val di Pesa is an Italian town of 17,244 inhabitants [2] dellaprovincia of Florence in Tuscany, on the hills that divide the river valleys of the Pesa and Greve River, is crossed by the highway Cassia, about 15 km south Florence and about 45 km north of Siena, and is bordered by the towns of Greve in Chianti Impruneta Montespertoli and Tavarnelle Val di Pesa Scandicci.
It is part of subzone of Chianti Classico and is a renowned center for the production of its wines, extra virgin olive oil, and agricultural products in general.
The Pieve di San Pancrazio is an interesting example of Lombard Romanesque architecture of inspiration, follows the pattern of three aisles divided by pillars, concluding with two apses, and the bell tower is set on the left side. Notable is the decoration of the central arches. In a re-style of the early twentieth century are due to the internal front, preceded by a portico of Tuscan order columns on lintel, and the curious tower with mullioned window of the rectory. Inside, a wooden crucifix of the seventeenth century, a Crucifixion by Santi di Tito, the Madonna del Latte attributed to place of Francis, including a "Nativity" of the school board within a century by Santi di Tito.
The Pieve di Santo Stefano a Campoli already exists in the tenth century, has maintained outside the Romanesque style (the bell tower, the apse, the front wall topped by arches) and the porch was added in the seventeenth century. The interior has three naves resting on square pillars, has whitewashed arches and covered with stucco eighteenth century. At this time also date from the porch outside and restorations, also testified by an inscription with the date 1760, applied on the inside.Of note is a painting of the sixteenth century with laMadonna and Child with Saints, attributed to Franciabigio, a crucifix and a sixteenth-century altar table with laMadonna fifteenth and Child with Saint John.
